Originally designed for guitarists who wanted an easy transition over to bass, the 6 string bass or 'bass 6' has taken on an identity all its own.

6 wound bass strings, thinner than your standard bass but thicker than a baritone guitar. Tuned E to E like a standard 6 string, but one full octave down. Alternatively can be tuned as a baritone if desired.

While it does a great "doubling bass" sound and can certainly hold down regular low end duties, it really shines for allowing easy guitar-like chording, and unique stretchy chord voicings that otherwise would require a ton of finger labor on a standard, gigantic 6 string bass. Sound like Thundercat in seconds without having super saiyan fingers.
