Inspired by a 1960's prototype that never came to be. The DW1 in its standard form features four 16-pole Neodymium pickups hidden underneath the pickguard. These pickups have been painstakingly reverse engineered by Feelgood partner Boris Kusic based on unearthed schematics of the original prototype's pickups.
Boris improved upon their design by using Neodymium magnets for ultra high output to counteract the further distance from the strings, as well as experimenting with various wire gauges and numbers of winds until he landed at what is to my ears, the perfect single coil tone.
Originally designed at the request of the legendary Porky Freeman, who felt the pickups 'got in the way' when playing. Free your hands to rest anywhere you please and unlock a dizzying array of tones with four pickups and phase wiring for each one, in addition to a rhythm circuit. Or of course, make it your own with any pickups, wiring, etc that you like!
